Out of focus #3
Another late quote and song post, but oh well. We have had such beautiful weather (sunblock type of weather!) and I have spent a few days off the computer, unplugging and enjoying the sun. I think I may also blame the lateness of this post, on the public holiday today – it may be a Monday, but it sure does feel like a Sunday!
There are your fog people & your sun people, he said. I said I wasn’t sure which kind I was. He nodded. Fog’ll do that to you, he said. ~ Story People
I’m not the best gardener and my gardens in the backyard are proof of that. I do not enjoy weeding, or sitting outside in the sun for hours with my hands in the dirt. But. I saw this on flickr a while back and wanted to give it a go – growing seeds in egg shells. I think I just liked how cute the eggshells look, rather than the actual planting, waiting and growing side of things. But now that I have planted my little seeds (baby carrots), it’s actually quite exciting waiting for them to sprout!
I am hoping that at least one sprouts for me, although with my track record (being able to kill a Yucca plant, which are so easy-maintenance it’s not funny), I have probably under or over watered the poor seeds already. At the moment they are sitting on my window sill in the bedroom, where the sunlight is so wonderful in the afternoons – and the window sill is high enough to be out of reach from a certain little person! little miss has been helping me water them daily though, with a spray bottle (so please, please, little seeds – please sprout. I have told little miss that you will grow into carrots and I can’t disappoint her!)
If they do sprout, I think I will be moving them into a large pot rather than the garden – I just know I will forget about them in the garden and it won’t be long before the weeds take over! But at least planting them will be easy – just crush the egg-shell a little and then pop in the dirt. I am so excited at the thought of being able to eat something I grew by myself, but we will just have to wait and see…
