i started reading Buddhism for mothers a while back, and although i haven’t read much of anything in the past few weeks, it’s the book i grab when i have a few minutes to read. early on in the book, the author talks about developing mindfulness and how to cultivate it in our daily lives. ever since i read that chapter, i have been trying to be more mindful. slow-down, notice the details, the little things and be more present. recently i realized just how much i was missing out on before. after our walk in the weekend, i sat with my thoughts and realized that by slowing down, i saw, felt and heard much more. and so begins a new series here on my blog. a small moment from my week, slowed down and noticed.

the smooth walkway, underfoot
quiet chirps from baby birds, from trees nearby
loud squawks from gulls above
yellow and white wild flowers, dotting the grass
the rhythm of our jandals, shuffling along
patterns in the wind-swept sand
warm sun on my shoulders
a welcome contrast to the biting wind
the little man, holding his toy car tight, not letting it go
music made by the waves, crashing down
whirring of bike tyres
buzzing of bees
warm sand
drift wood and shells aplenty
dry, old grass, like walking on needles
relief for shelter, out of the harsh wind.

it just so happens that darrah parker’s slice of life theme this month, is slowing down. so im linking up to that as well. and of course, if you feel like slowing down a moment from your week, i would love for you to link up in the comments!
